The 2022 Kia EV6 electric car is the brand’s first attempt at a dedicated electric car, and it’s a knockout. Among the most exciting Kias ever made, the EV6’s combination of ample power, quick charging, good range, and spacious interior make it a solid competitor to the likes of the Volkswagen ID.4, Mustang Mach-E, and Tesla Model Y.

Passenger Room and Comfort

The Kia EV6’s dedicated electric car platform means there are no internal combustion engine (ICE) compromises to interior space or configuration. In turn, that means there’s plenty of space for passengers front and rear.
The front seats are built with ultra-light steel and thin frames to maximize the room available to rear seat occupants, while the second-row seats also recline to improve comfort on longer journeys. Ride quality is sporty but comfortable, and is well-suited to the EV6’s sporty powertrain.

Features and Tech

The 2022 Kia EV6 lineup offers a wide array of trims and powertrain options, spanning a price range from $40,900 to $55,900. A total of five main variants across three trim lines are available: Light ($40,900), Wind RWD ($47,000), GT-Line RWD ($51,200), Wind AWD ($50,900), and GT-Line AWD ($55,900).
Standard features include a 12.3-inch instrument display, 12.3-inch touchscreen navigation display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, on-board Wi-Fi hotspot, LED interior lighting, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and more.
Despite being the most affordable EV6 variant, the EV6 Light nonetheless offers a strong standard feature set, with standard rear-wheel drive, LED exterior lighting, a gloss black grille and black lower fascia, LED multi-focus reflector headlights, an acoustic film windshield, a 6-speaker audio system, USB-C charging in both rows, power windows, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, Bluetooth, and voice recognition. The EV6 Light comes with a 58-kWh battery rated for up to 232 miles of range.
Stepping up to the EV6 Wind trim line offers a choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), gloss black exterior style accents, a smart rear power liftgate, vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power port, acoustic film front side windows, synthetic leather seat trim, a 14-speaker audio system with subwoofer, heated and ventilated front seats, an available heated steering wheel, and more optional advanced safety equipment. The EV6 Wind comes with a 77.4-kWh battery pack and is rated for 274 miles of range with AWD, or 310 miles with RWD.
The range-topping EV6 GT-Line variants also come in a choice of RWD or AWD, but with the focus on sporty driving. As with the Light and Wind, the GT-Line comes with 19-inch wheels, but the GT-Line alone offers the chance to upgrade to 20-inch alloys.
In addition to the GT-Line’s subtle exterior styling tweaks, it also builds on the equipment set of the Wind with a D-shaped steering wheel, unique GT-Line center console, upgraded scuff plates, optional suede upholstery trims, and optional heated second-row outboard seats. The EV6 GT-Line uses the same battery pack, and offers the same range as the EV6 Wind.

Materials and Design

Inside and out, the Kia EV6 is visually impressive. Kia says the exterior was inspired by the contrasts and opposites in nature and life. Married with the conceptual design is a decidedly practical flair, including the way the tail kicks up and works as a rear spoiler, or the hands-free tailgate with short overhangs makes for not only a planted visual stance, but also for easy loading and unloading.
Materials used in the cabin are generally luxurious, while also being sustainable, with recycled plastic and fabrics, as well as available vegan leather.

Cargo Room and Flexibility

As a large hatchback or sleek SUV — however you might like to define it — the 2022 Kia EV6 is inherently flexible in its use case, offering a wide range of functions from 5-seat people mover to 50-cubic-foot cargo hauler.
The minimum cargo area configuration, the area behind the rear seats, offers 24.4 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold down the rear seat and that grows to 50.2 cubic feet. Combined with a relatively low load floor and the available hands-free power rear liftgate, the Kia EV6 should prove a great choice for loading and unloading all types of cargo, whether shopping, camping, or tailgating.
